WHAT WE DO

Education

Education and school readiness have been the focus of a series of reports by the Ochs Center dating back to a 2003 report on literacy in the community.

The Ochs Center provided research support to the Hamilton County Reading Initiative and the resulting countywide READ 20 program. The Center has also worked with local foundations and the Hamilton County Department of Education on issues related to teacher professional development, hiring, recruitment and preparation.

Ochs Center staff have provided research assistance to community residents interested in both increasing public school choices and creating charter schools.

The Ochs Center has served as the evaluator of a grant to improve connections between arts and culture and local schools.

The Ochs Center has participated in a multi-city research initiative examining school readiness and early grade success, convening a 19 member Advisory Board to assist in a comprehensive assessment of conditions in Hamilton County.

The Ochs Center for Metropolitan Studies hosted a policy forum on early childhood education on June 20, 2009. The forum focused on what government, non-profits, parents, teachers and county leaders can do to better ensure school success for Hamilton County children.
